Cplatt's recreation of a wind vehicle that outruns the tailwind.

Charles Platt's wind vehicle in MAKE magazine this month--

"Another high kudo to the crew at Make has everything to do with a couple of articles in the newest issue by Charles Platt. I remembered Platt the most from his days of extolling cryonics and Extropians in Science Fiction Eye (as well as being one of the founders of the "Victims of Ellison" group back in the early Nineties), but his articles in Make have been marvels at "gosh science". In particular, he focused on testing the claims of an inventor who allegedly developed a wind-driven vehicle that can outrun its tailwind (and offers a YouTube video as proof) by making his own edition and testing the design.[+]

CPlatt's penchant for inventing things at SA might be partly inspired by following this magazine. Maxim has been critical of Platt for wasting money and time at SA on devices that could be more easily purchased off-the-shelf.
