Major screw-up in Alcor member billing needs look.

UPDATE-- This problem has been solved. Part of the problem was MY mistake in taking what appeared to be a bill and thinking is WAS a bill. The FINE PRINT indicated it wasn't. I rushed to judgement. It sure looks like the old paper bill that they had been using, however. Complete with envelope!! (why send the return envelpe if it's NOT a bill??? The entire episode was VERY CONFUSING-- and NONE of my other bills resembled this schmozzle. I stand by my original criticism.

I just got another regular mail bill from Alcor for membership despite my having signed on to the requested debit card automated system. There's been a major snuffau in the billing dept. that has been under-reported. I'm now under the impression that I'm being double billed.

Of course I'll call the office Monday. However-- of all the bills I get and pay-- this is the most troublesome one. Now why is that?

Previous to this problem, it seems I wasn't getting my regular membership bill-- that they sent it by email-- and didn't tell me-- so a few of my payments were missed-- but then the regular mail started again-- then it went away again-- then I got a request to use my debit card so I faxed my info in-- then they backcharged me the missing payments except for the current month-- now this-- a regular mail bill.

Unbelievable. I was tolerant before but I think I'm a little angry now. I just hope there's nothing more serious going on. Obviously it would be pretty unbelievably dumb for something else to be allowed to happen but with recent financial scandals at Alcor, one doesn't know anymore if the actual people working there aren't somehow doing things that shouldn't be done. I never like having my card debited and always prefer to write a cheque to be in control for each payment.

In fact, I think I'll make that happen despite Alcor stated preference for the debit card routine. I don't trust Alcor with my debit number any longer. I'll make THAT call monday morning-- and I recommend ALL members go to regular cheque payment-- monthly or quarterly. No debit cards for Alcor anymore.

FD said in another post in CF that I'm a "true believer" in Alcor. This should prove I'm not. I'm very dubious but there's not much fucking choice in the world is there FD? -- by the way, FD is NOT signed up with ANYONE.

Just call this post "blog rage"... like "road rage" only on the net.

Here are potential people responsible for the screw up

Sheila Kimbrell, ext. 114
Bookkeeper
sheila@alcor.org

Sheila Kimbrell works part-time as Alcor’s bookkeeper. Ms. Kimbrell has been operating a private accounting practice since 2001 and was employed prior to that for 15 years by Heiser & Associates, a small local accounting firm. She left this position, her sole employer prior to private practice, when the firm dissolved on the death of its owner. She has formal education in accounting from Phoenix College and was previously certified as a QuickBooks Professional Advisor. She is a past president and current board member of the Arizona Society of Practicing Accountants, member of the National Society of Accountants, past president of the North Valley Business Network, and treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 431.

Jennifer Chapman, ext. 113
Chief Administrative Officer
jennifer@alcor.org
Employed at Alcor since September 2000, Jennifer previously held the position of Director of Membership Services and stepped into the position of Marketing Director in January 2005. Her primary responsibilities as Marketing Director are to educate the public about Alcor's program by hosting conferences and media events, coordinating publication of Alcor's magazine, and developing promotional materials and campaigns. She is also manager of the Membership Department and is responsible for developing the organization's fundraising activities. Prior to her employment at Alcor, Jennifer worked as a Quality Control Technician and Warehouse Administrator for two years at Lenzing Fibers Corporation in Tennessee. She has an Associate of Science Engineering Degree from Walters State College and a Business Management Degree from the University of Phoenix.

And while I'm at it, here's a Libertarian who dismisses the General Welfare clause of the USA constitution

Jerry Searcy, ext. 131
Volunteer
j.t.searcy@worldnet.att.net

Jerry is our indispensible full-time volunteer, performing tasks assigned by anyone. He assists in general cleaning, shopping for and storing supplies, computer work, offering transportation to visitors, and helping organize meetings.

Jerry served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1964, where he serviced equipment used to maintain fighter jets. After this he attended school learning computer programming. He worked for Nevada Power Company from 1966 to 1969, and after that worked for Clark County Public Works until retiring in 1997 when he relocated to Scottsdale to work as a volunteer for Alcor

I'll blame him for the billing snuffau just because he doesn't like the General Welfare clause. (That's a little humor for you there Jerry).

UPDATE 8-6-07

I just noticed the DO NOT PAY THIS BILL on my bill. It looks like a bill-- so I thought it was a bill. The DO NOT PAY is typed pretty small-- so it's easy to confuse this non-bill with a bill. I'll just leave the mess alone. I don't like it but then I never did like it because the tear off part of the bill never fit right in the envelope. Who can screw something like that up? Alcor.
