Harris might be miscasting Maxim's main arguments.

I knew this would happen-- Melody Maxim would come under counter attack-- and potentially be miscasted. Here's Harris' latest counter move on Maxim--

Melody's scientific issue contributions have been limited to arguing that too-rapid cooling is not a good thing in cryonics--- something NOBODY believes but her (good luck on that one, Ms. M.)--- and calling for "less toxic vitrification solutions". The last is a non-starter, because it's a no-brainer. At best it's a mere wish, at worst a childish demand. Everybody wants less toxic vitrification solutions. Calling for them is like calling for better schools or faster rockets. "I want faster rockets."

That's really bad-- Maxim left herself OPEN to that! I tried to tell her-- do an ALPHA blog-- and she didn't get that quick enough. The point of alpha blogging is that you can TARGET points and make them STICK and FLOAT-- so that these types of COUNTER moves can't pull you down into their torrents. Look at what Harris has done here. In terms of psyops, he has made her into a childish brat. There is NO COUNTERMOVE that she can make now OTHER than an ALPHA BLOG.

As for "FD"-- I see FD "twisting in the wind". His post, in true REDUCTIONIST style-- is basically unreadable. I can't stand cut and pasters who quote every single line someone types and then responds to it. The CONTEXT and INTENT is all GONE..... Right here, you can see that FD is a neophyte when it comes to what the type of online debate he says he likes. I think of FD as fairly USELESS-- and to boot-- he bassically OVERRAN Cold Filter with Hinek's permission. Cold Filter is modelled on Cryonics Cafe which came under attack and whose creator was attacked and had to be closed a few years ago. Harris needs to alphablog and THEN

we will alpha blog vs. alpha blog type of debates and get traction that way.

Maxim left herself WIDE OPEN to FD's criticism of her latest blog post as well. [+] Maxim has very good points but on her blog, she somehow becomes LESS effective than in the sparring on CF-- she widened her critique, FD saw the opening and lunged.

First, you raise two problems that stand in the way of a successful cryopreservation, both of which have been beat around in the cryonics community for decades. Most of us understand that the faster a legally dead person gets service, the better will be the results. Apart from the organizations finding novel ways to get there faster (helicopters?), as you say, the only way distant people will be served is if there are more of them and more support structure to serve them.

Your other problem, less toxic vitrification solutions, has been looked at occasionally, but not often enough, by those few organizations doing any kind of research, including the Kent group. I might have missed one, but I don't recall seeing any chemists in SA's staff listing, though. Probably there should be. [+]

This is a case where Maxim show weakness in directing attention to the problems at hand. The overview she needs to write has yet to be written and any comment she makes needs to RESTATE the overview. If arguments were commercials, then she has created an ineffective commercial. The only way to regroup and establish her point is be creation of an alphabetical listing of the main ideas-- and then a selection of those for a series of counter punches that do NOT end up being responses to the CF posts....

On the other hand, in HER case, she might do better IN Cold Filter and let someone else do the alpha listings-- me for instance. Ugh. I spend too much time on this as it is. But if she's going to make headway as a CRITIC-- and as a useful reference point in cryonics, this is the ONLY way to do it. Look at how FD and HArris sank her this morning. Those were direct hits. BOOM! BOOM!

Not even I can offer a defense this morning. And it's still morning.
