Crappy counters all lie.

I've looked at counters enough to know that they're pretty much all crap. I can't even get a counter to tell me number of unique viewers per day or per month. Google stats has a new program but it's got far more than I'm interested in-- and it doesn't give you the ability to display a simple counter on the page. STill, I have an account with that program and will likely take a look at it now and then to see if I can determine unique views per whatever unit of time it looks like is occurring.

In general, I think the counting problem is too problematic so I don't care about it anymore. Rather than count IP hits or whatever, I think the best way to gauge things is simply from the posted feedback. I would encourage readers to simply indicate-- via a voting booth-- what their reading habits are. I'll develop that over the next few days. Of course, it'll be completely non-scientific but many of the voting mechanisms only allow one vote per IP per day. That's good enough for me for now. I'm not trying to "market" anything here-- which is what all those statistical counters are aimed at-- business sites trying to gauge readers for products or advertising. I'm only interested in "being available online" and having "online presence" for my cryonics and cryonics contextual views. From there, any number of ways can be used to move about.
