Technical issues

Response to My jaw dropped, and it's still dragging on the floor
FD: Now a comment on whoever's issues with Ms. Maxim: It's OVER. She don't work there anymore. She has talked a lot since, and may continue, but may I suggest just sifting through whatever she presents, for whatever items especially technical ones that might be useful for improvement? And letting the rest of it just blow right by?

HARRIS: Good idea, but doesn't save me from being up to my neck in it. Maxim says the pressure monitoring arterial cannulae worked fine and are still being sold. Platt says they couldn't get them to work for SA washout purposes, with the relatively more viscous washout perfusate at colder temps (where it is, indeed, considerably more viscous than blood at normal body temps, where these things were originally designed to be used). The HES in the washout fluid does make it hard to pump in the cold (no, this has nothing to do with vitrification).

PHIL:--out of loop--

We see here that cannulae are pressure monitering. The "critical error", however, may not have been committed as a result of this. Two separate issues. Harris points out that Maxim's mention of vitrification has nothing to do with this-- however she may have mentioned it in another context-- which begs the question-- are pressure monitering cannulae used in vitrification?

Now, this question was from Maxim's first week at work. The cannulae were never bought for the kits. There was a dispute, apparently, but no third party was brought in to resolve it. My lab would have been the natural one to use, but there are others. As it was, nothing happened. Maxim says I don't know the details because I wasn't there. But the people who were there, disagree. However, there is no disagreement on the fact that the problem was not solved, the pressure monitoring catheters were not bought (nor were any other type of arterial cannulae which would work femorally), and basically, the ball was dropped.

Phil-- out of loop-- Well now-- the management is usually responsible for kicking balls-- and if the ball was dropped-- that would be CPlatt-- who Harris is doing everything to defend-- without mentioning him. Why?

So now I'm going to have to get involved in this. We now have cannulae, but it would be nice to have pressures from the cannula tip, so there's no guessing about flow pressure drops. [+]

PHIL-- out of loop-- No guessing about flow pressure drops?-- or how about the CRITICAL ERROR-- where there was a flow pressure burst?-- which is still unresolved.
